I am in the process of getting information on starting a professional karaoke business. I would like to know what program that is commonly used and if those programs have the songs on them already, or if I need to find a separate source to download thousands of popular songs?

First off, it depends if you have a Mac or other laptop since some software programs don’t work on both. one of the better karaoke programs to run a show with is Virtual DJ (VDJ). VDJ will run a karaoke, DJ or video files but it is not for a Mac laptop. There is also CompuHOst which is a great karaoke software also. A very solid software that has been around for a while is the “Sax and Dotty” software. It is said to be easier to use although it does not have as many features as the other two.
You want to buy the most recent version of the software. You will have to buy your karaoke music separate since the software programs come by themselves.
Unless you buy collections from Sound Choice (bricks) or Chartbuster you will be spending over a thousand(s) just for the music. Stay away from scammers selling loaded karaoke hard drive collections for a few hundred since they are illegal copies inmost cases. Even if you had the karaoke music you would need a software program like “Power Karaoke” to transfer the songs to you computer as well. you will also need a program to make your song books with.
The cheapest way to get the karaoke music is forget the laptop for now and buy a karaoke player that has thousands of songs built in which “Ace karaoke” (online from California) sells for a few hundred dollars and come with a songbook.
